Bucyrus, Bucyrus, I Love You, Bucyrus

If you are reading this then you probably know that if you google Bucyrus Website Design you'll find me, a lot. In fact my business cards say Bucyrus Website Design Champion**.
Grrr, fool.
But joking aside, it's mostly a novelty thing. I grew up here and with it being such an easy market, I'd be embarrassed not to run it. But it really doesn't make any money. Most Bucyrus businesses that have websites would rather hire an amateur local designer they've known for years, or bribe their nephew to do it (because he's the family computer whiz kid.)  That's OK. You get what you pay for.

I just had to tell you that so I could tell you this.

My partner and I are expanding to bigger markets. For a lot of reasons, but mostly because they appreciate good web design and have more capital than the Bucyrus Web Design Market.

Fun Fact: Some amateur web designers think that expanding to a bigger market means putting the keywords " North Central Ohio" on their company websites. Because they don't want to limit themselves to Bucyrus.

That's not what my partner and I are doing. We're doing adult stuff involving research and math and planning. One of the markets we're targeting is an entire third world country. We're trying to take over a place with a constitution and tanks and planes. I'll give you a hint. The name of the country rhymes with "Winning!--Beat ya!"

So we're at the beginning, strategizing*, and doing other grown up stuff, and we come to the problem of needing an official mailing address. My partner tells me he knows a guy that will let us use his mailing address. All right, sounds good. But wait, not only is he going to let us use his mailing address. He'll let us use his brand as well. In return we only have to help him launch a new product.

My partner isn't the best businessman.

* Yes strategizing is a real word. It's the present participle of strategize.. duh.
** They really do.

Free Websites for Charities in Bucyrus, Ohio

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but our Google results look ten times better today. However, most of the links showing up on the front page 404. That's not good. After this blog post I'm going to update the sitemap and get rid of those. Can't have folks finding holes in the internet. The good news is that it looks like my blog jumped to the number two spot, right below our main site. It might be a misconception on my part but if my research is correct then that's huge. After-all, 80% of the clicks generally go to the top three results.

I'm going to cut this short but a before I do I have a small announcement. We're offering free website design (up to ten hours each) for charities and non-profits in Bucyrus, Ohio. At Blitzkrieg Bucyrus Website Design we believe in helping the folks who are helping folks. So give us a shout in the comments below (or on facebook or gplus) and let us know if you, or someone you know, would be interested in using our guns to fight the good fight.

Be careful,
Stay awesome,

Kalen

Is your website amatuer?

Today I printed out my own business cards. It was a disaster. I don't have the proper tools and I probably wasted more ink than I'm worth (printer ink is more expensive than human blood.) In the end they turned out pretty terrible, but as I was looking at them I had a realization.

It's a great metaphor for an amateur website.

My business cards get the job done. You can put them in your pocket and you have all the info you need to contact me. But they look unprofessional. They scream "DON'T TRUST THIS PERSON!!!RUN!". It's the same thing with an amateur website.

Amateur websites get the job done. They have all the information you need. They're open twenty-four seven to anyone with a internet connection. But it makes you look bad. And what happens when someone looks at your site on a smartphone or tablet? Is it cut in half like some of my cards?

The new generation of customers growing up around you understand technology. They will judge you based on how your website looks. And this isn't just kids who would never buy your product in the first place. It's everyone under thirty.

The world has been online for nearly twenty years. In the 1990s you could get away with a site that looked cheesy. You were the big man on campus if you even had a site.

Look at these cards and think about what I'm saying. Would you hand them out to people?

If the answer is no, take a quick peek at your website. Have you been telling yourself the website doesn't really matter to your business? That you aren't in a market where a good website makes a difference?

Has it become a self-fulfilling prophecy?

If I hand you my business card and you snicker and laugh when I leave because of how awful it looks. Ask yourself this, how do you think strangers will react when they see your website. Is it impressive? Will they be wowed? Will they instantly trust you because your website looks awesome and it's obvious to everyone that you are not messing around?

Comment below and tell me what you think and feel free to visit our website. Because that's our real business card, and we're not messing around.

Kings of Bucyrus Web Design or SEO telemarketing and what not to do when your making cold calls.

I have been cold calling businesses trying to sell them SEO and Web Design and I can't telemarket to save my life.

Here's a list of mistakes I made.

1. I called the same business back to back because lawyers think they need twenty yellow page ads each.

2. I asked a guy from California (Im in Ohio) to meet me to go over some graphs.

3.  I used a canned speech which made things good for leaving messages but bad for actual conversions.

And here's a list of some things that made me chuckle.

1. A lawyer told me 1K was too expensive.

2. A plumbing and heating owner told me they Googled themselves and they had no trouble finding their business.

Got Smacked; Penguin 4.0 Released

We were pretty sad yesterday, after getting the number one search result in Google for the keywords "Bucyrus website design" in a lightning fast five days, we got smacked by Google, then removed completely from the search engine. Luckily we're prepared for things like that and after doing the magic rain dance of Google, we're back to number one again. This time I think we'll stay there for a little longer than twenty four hours.

Proof

right now is an under construction page because our designer is super religious and doesn't want people to watch him get dressed, so for you night owls there's not much to see, but in four hours or so we'll be going live.

Cheers!

As a side note penguin was updated today, so if you're using spam to game your search results you might want to run a few searches to see if it's still working.
